Field Day 2014 On the Air From Anywhere

Field Day 2014 is almost here!   There will be a group of operators working from the University of Utah on June 28th, from Noon to 8pm (local time).   All are welcome.

Field Day is an annual event for amateur radio operators to set up and operate in less than ideal conditions, often in remote locations.  This year, a few of us are getting together for Field Day on the University of Utah Campus.   The official objective of Field Day (from arrl.org):

To work as many stations as possible on any and all amateur bands (excluding the 60, 30, 17, and 12-meter bands) and to learn to operate in abnormal situations in less than optimal conditions. Field Day is open to all amateurs in the areas covered by the ARRL/RAC Field Organizations and countries within IARU Region 2. DX stations residing in other regions may be contacted for credit, but are not eligible to submit entries.

Whether you have an amateur radio license or not, all are welcome.   Come experience the fun of amateur radio with us for Field Day 2014.  We’ll be operating with three primary radios, using solar & battery power.   If you’ve questions, please email kb0lqj AT arrl DOT net

 Field Day 2014 location

We’ll be on the University of Utah campus, east of the William Browning Building (approx 135 S 1460 E).   There is visitor parking on campus.  [Depending on other campus activities, parking may or may not be free.]

Having a hard time finding us?   Contact us on 146.540 (simplex) when you get near the U of U campus.

Field Day 2014 Plan

We’ll probably be operating on 80m, 20m, 10m, and 2m under the call KB0LQJ.  We’ll also have a GOTA (Get on the Air) Station, and we’ll supervise while non-ham’s operate the radios.  We’ll be operating from Noon to 8pm on 28-June only.   [Camping is one thing, camping when they turn on the sprinklers is another, so we’re only going to be there for the day.]

Weather for Field Day 2014

If the weather is inclement, especially if there is a threat of thunderstorms, we’ll cancel.
